The Nevada Creek Restoration Project and Mitigation Bank (in process)

The Nevada Creek Restoration Project and Mitigation Bank is situated on a 450 acre parcel of land that holds the centuries old remains of the ruined Alaska Treasure Mine on the banks of Nevada Creek, a fast running stream on Douglas Island that feeds into Gastineau Channel. The Mitigation and Restoration site compensates for the proposed expansion of a waste rock deposit site nearby. A thorough survey has been made of the diverse ecosystem that the site entails and many measures of restoration and preservation, such as the removal of harmful waste rock concentrates and the management of other hazardous materials that remain from the last mining efforts in 1914.
